5/11/07-A bill has died that would have permitted police to pull over drivers in the state for not wearing their seat belts.
Sponsored by Rep. Rich Glorioso, R-Plant City, HB27 remained in the House Safety and Security Council when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year.
Under a 1986 state law, police can ticket drivers for not buckling up only after stopping a vehicle for another traffic violation, such as speeding or a bad taillight.
The bill would have authorized primary enforcement of the seat-belt law.
A similar bill - S484 - met the same fate.

1/31/07-The House Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee voted 9-0 to approve a bill that would permit police to pull over drivers in the state for not wearing their seat belts.

Sponsored by Rep. Rich Glorioso, R-Plant City, HB27 would authorize primary enforcement of the seat-belt law.
The bill now heads to the House Safety and Security Council for further consideration.

12/29/06-Rep. Richard Glorioso, R-Plant City, has filed a bill that would permit police to pull over drivers in the state for not wearing their seat belts.
Currently, police can ticket drivers for not buckling up only after stopping a vehicle for another traffic violation, such as speeding or a bad taillight.
HB27 would create a primary law for seat-belt enforcement.
The bill is awaiting assignment to committee for the legislative session that begins in March.
