5/10/07-A bill has died that would have permitted police to pull over drivers in the state for not wearing their seat belts.
Sponsored by Sen. Nan Rich, D-Sunrise, S484 remained in the Senate Transportation Committee when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year.
Currently, police can ticket drivers for not buckling up only after stopping a vehicle for another traffic violation, such as speeding or a bad taillight.
The bill would have permitted police to pull over drivers in the state for not wearing their seat belts.
An identical House bill - HB27 - met a similar fate.
