6/5/07-Gov. Sonny Perdue signed a bill into law that repeals certain provisions in state law that required truckers and others obtaining or renewing their commercial driver’s licenses to take a one-hour training session on homeland security to get or renew their commercial driver’s license.
A 2006 law required truckers to participate in the Highway Watch program that’s administered by the American Trucking Association.
The new law, previously HB419, drops that requirement. It takes effect Jan. 1, 2008.
The Highway Watch program, which is funded with tax dollars, consists of a short classroom session – or a video or audio presentation – followed by the issuance a Highway Watch ID card.
