OOIDA Call to Action - Idaho Members
February 6, 2007

Attention: Idaho truckers! It is imperative that you take time now to contact members of the Idaho Senate Transportation Committee about a bill to eliminate the state's split speed limit on interstate highways. The committee could discuss the bill as early as Tuesday, Feb. 13.

Sponsored by Sen. Tim Corder, R-Mountain Home, the bill - S1075 - would tweak the speeds on the affected routes to 70 mph for all vehicles. As you know, large trucks now are limited to 65 mph along those stretches while all other vehicles can travel 75 mph.

By having one speed limit for which all vehicles comply, the need for passing, lane changes, tailgating, and other maneuvers that create opportunities for drivers to make mistakes is minimized. This isn't physics or rocket science. It's simple common sense that highway engineers have known and followed for decades.

It is vital you contact the committee members listed below and let them know the importance of uniform speeds to road safety and that you would appreciate their support of a uniform speed limit provision in any speed limit legislation. A link is provided for each member's e-mail.
