Illinois truckers – Several Republicans in the Illinois statehouse have introduced a measure intended to block any effort to sell or lease the Illinois Tollway system. Please act now to voice your support of this legislation.

Led by Rep. Dennis Reboletti, R-Addison, the GOP lawmakers said they are unconvinced by Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s previous assurances that he will not pursue deals to sell or lease the 274-mile system.

A study completed a year ago reported Illinois could reap as much as $24 billion up front if it were to lease the tollway for 75 years. Deals like this are akin to a pawnshop mentality of hocking your assets for cash now, but paying much more down the road.

The bill – HB2038 – would take away any option to hand over state assets to the highest bidder. To voice support for HB2038 and speak out against privatizing the state’s tollway system contact members of the House Executive Committee.
