6/5/07-A bill - HB1786 - to eliminate the provision in state law that set up slower speed limits on rural interstates for vehicles weighing more than 8,000 pounds has been sent to the House Rules Committee. An identical bill - SB540 - however, has been sent to the governor's desk.

3/27/07-The House Drivers Education and Safety Committee approved a bill that would eliminate the provision in state law that set up slower speed limits on rural interstates for vehicles weighing more than 8,000 pounds. The bill now heads to the House for further consideration.
Existing state law requires large trucks to travel 10 mph below the 65 mph speed limit for other vehicles.
Sponsored by Rep. Robert Flider, D-Decatur, HB1786 would allow the Illinois Department of Transportation to increase large truck speeds to as much as 65 mph.
The bill is awaiting consideration on the House floor.
