3/20/07-A bill in the Senate Ways and Means Committee is likely dead that would have increased tolls on the Kansas Turnpike to help pay for repairs at state universities.
SB369, which sought to increase turnpike tolls by 25 percent during the next six years, met stiff opposition during a public hearing on the bill.
Tolls for most large trucks to travel the full length of the route would have increased from about $25.75 to more than $38. Car drivers would have seen their rate increase from $8.75 to nearly $13.
