7/16/07-Gov. Kathleen Blanco signed a bill into law that removes household goods movers from the state's definition of "motor freight lines." The declassification exempts household movers from paying a 2 percent tax assessed on gross receipts resulting from business within the state.
The new law, previously SB108, will result in the state's general fund losing out on about $675,000 during the next five years.

7/11/07-The Senate and House have approved a bill that would remove household goods movers from the state's definition of "motor freight lines." The declassification would exempt household movers from paying a 2 percent tax assessed on gross receipts resulting from business within the state.
Sponsored by Sen. Sherri Smith Cheek, R-Keithville, SB108 would result in the state's general fund losing out on about $675,000 during the next five years.
The bill has moved to Gov. Kathleen Blanco's desk.
