6/4/07-A bill killed in committee would have prohibited all drivers from using hand-held cell phones. Talking on a phone equipped with a “hands-free” accessory would still have been permitted.
Sponsored by Rep. Robert Berube, R-Lisbon, LD114 would have made exceptions for certain persons operating motor vehicles within the scope of their employment. Among the groups that were included in the category were holders of commercial driver’s licenses.

2/23/07-A bill in the Joint Committee on Transportation would prohibit drivers from talking on hand-held cell phones while at the wheel. Talking on a phone equipped with a "hands-free" accessory would still be permitted.

Violators would face at least $50 fines. Repeat offenders would face at least $250 fines.
