5/3/07-A bill in the House Transportation Committee would boost the state's 15-cent-per-gallon diesel tax by 13 cents during the next three years.
Sponsored by Rep. Hoon-Yung Hopgood, D-Taylor, HB4576 would increase the fuel tax rates to 22 cents per gallon next year. Two annual increases of 3 cents per gallon would follow in 2009 and 2010, taking the rates up to 28 cents per gallon.
The bill also would increase vehicle registration fees by 50 percent.
