6/26/07-A bill in the House Transportation Committee would require the Michigan Department of Transportation to establish toll lanes in highly congested urban areas.
Sponsored by Rep. Coleman Young, D-Detroit, HB4826 would allow toll lanes to be added to or designated from existing lanes.
Within six months the department would be required to submit a report to identify locations for toll lanes, construction of toll booths if needed, possible private operators or contractors, and possible funding sources for construction. The lanes could be free for vehicles occupied by more than two persons.
