4/24/07-A bill has died that would have generated up to $850 million annually in new revenue to help pay for needed road and transit work.
Sponsored by Rep. Ron Erhardt, R-Edina, HF23 remained in the House Finance Committee at a deadline to advance, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill included a provision to increase the state's 20-cent-per-gallon tax on diesel and gasoline by 10 cents. It also would have increased registration fees on new vehicles and authorize counties to impose a half-cent sales tax boost, as well as implement a statewide wheelage tax, which allows counties to charge up to $20 annually for each vehicle.
An identical Senate bill - SF5 - met the same fate.
