7/10/07-Gov. Matt Blunt has signed a bill into law that allows common carriers of household goods to file applications to the State Highways and Transportation Commission for approval of rates to reflect increases and decreases in the carrier's costs.
The new law, previously HB28, repeals "the exemption that currently allows household goods movers to operate wholly in municipalities, between contiguous municipalities, or commercial zones" without having to obtain operating authority from the Missouri Department of Transportation.
Currently, household movers are exempt from the rules and regulations if their operations are restricted to those described areas.
The new rule takes effect Aug. 28.

5/24/07-The Senate unanimously approved a bill that would allow common carriers of household goods to file applications to the State Highways and Transportation Commission for approval of rates to reflect increases and decreases in the carrier's costs.
Sponsored by Rep. Jane Cunningham, R-Chesterfield, HB28 would repeal "the exemption that currently allows household goods movers to operate wholly in municipalities, between contiguous municipalities, or commercial zones" without having to obtain operating authority from the Missouri Department of Transportation.
Currently, household movers are exempt from the rules and regulations if their operations are restricted to those described areas.
The bill now heads to Gov. Matt Blunt's desk. The House previously approved it.

Sponsored by Rep. Jane Cunningham, R-Chesterfield, HB28 would repeal “the exemption that currently allows household goods movers to operate wholly in municipalities, between contiguous municipalities, or commercial zones” without having to obtain operating authority from the Missouri Department of Transportation. Currently, household movers are exempt from the rules and regulations if their operations are restricted to those described areas.
The bill now heads to the Senate Rules Committee on its way to the Senate floor. If approved there, it would head to Gov. Matt Blunt’s desk. The House already approved it.

12/13/06-Rep. Jane Cunningham, R-Chesterfield, has filed a bill that would allow common carriers of household goods to file applications to the State Highways and Transportation Commission for approval of rates to reflect increases and decreases in the carrier's costs.
HB28 would repeal "the exemption that currently allows household goods movers to operate wholly in municipalities, between contiguous municipalities, or commercial zones" without having to obtain operating authority from the Missouri Department of Transportation. Currently, household movers are exempt from the rules and regulations if their operations are restricted to those described areas.
The bill is awaiting assignment to a committee for the session that begins Jan. 3.
