2/1/07-A bill has died that would have required drivers to maintain a safe distance and reduce speed before passing emergency vehicles parked by the road with lights flashing.
Sponsored by Rep. Thomas Reynolds, D-Charleston, HB842 remained in the House Transportation Committee at the deadline to advance to the chamber floor, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have required drivers to merge into a lane further away from emergency vehicles. On two-lane highways, drivers would have been required to reduce speed before passing emergency vehicles.
