6/4/07-A bill that would have allowed for primary enforcement of the state's seat belt law missed a deadline to advance from committee in the Assembly, effectively killing it for the year. The Senate previously approved the bill - SB42 - on an 11-10 vote.

4/26/07-The Senate voted 11-10 April 23 to approve a bill that would allow for primary enforcement of the state's seat-belt law.
Currently, law enforcement in the state can issue seat-belt citations to drivers only after stopping a vehicle for another traffic violation, such as speeding.
Failure to buckle up would continue to be a $25 fine.
SB42 has been forwarded to the Assembly Transportation Committee for further consideration. For bill status, call (775) 684-6800.

3/14/07-The Senate Transportation and Homeland Security Committee voted Tuesday, March 13, to approve a bill that would permit police to pull over drivers for failure to buckle up.
Currently, law enforcement in the state can issue seat-belt citations to drivers only after stopping a vehicle for another traffic violation, such as speeding.
Sponsored by Dennis Nolan, R-Las Vegas, SB42 would allow for primary enforcement.
Failure to buckle up would continue to be a $25 fine.
The bill now heads to the Senate floor for further consideration. For bill status, call (775) 684-6800.
