1/4/08-S3195 remained in the Senate Transportation Committee when the 2007 session closed. It can be brought back for consideration during the session that begins Jan. 9.
7/19/07-A bill in the Senate Transportation Committee would allow police to pull over drivers for typing, reading or sending text messages while at the wheel.
Sponsored by Sen. Carl Marcellino, R-Syosset, S3195 would ban so-called “texting” while driving. It would amend the state’s existing ban on using any cell phone that is not a “hands-free” device.
Violators would be fined $100 for texting – the same fine for violating the cell phone restriction.
