OOIDA Call to Action - Pennsylvania Members
July 9, 2007
Attention: Pennsylvania truckers! Legislation moving through the state Senate calls for placing tolls on Interstate 80. Time is running out. Speak out now against tolling our highways.
The House-approved bill – HB1590 – would also authorize a study of putting tolls on Interstate 95 and increasing fares on the Pennsylvania Turnpike by 25 percent starting in 2009.
Supporters of the plan say tolling along I-80 would be set up to eliminate or minimize fees for local drivers by building collection sites at New Jersey and Ohio borders. Opponents say the plan unfairly targets out-of-state travelers, and would have a serious financial impact on commercial truck drivers.
A key supporter of the bill, Rep. Richard Geist, R-Altoona, has always wanted tolls on I-80, specifically for trucks.
Please take time now to contact your state senator and speak out against tolling I-80. Encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same. We have to stop it in the Senate. To find your senator’s contact information click here.
