INFORMATION UPDATE - Texas Members
October 11, 2007

Dear Texas OOIDA Member,

Texas is making big plans for a complete system of Texas Transportation Corridors.  Tolling these new highways is a major part of their financing plan.  The researchers conducting this particular study are seeking input from truckers on how you make your toll road decisions, and the prices at which tolling ceases to be a option.  OOIDA would like to get your input into this process where it belongs, in the very beginning.  If you can please volunteer to give these folks the advantage of your real world experience, we'd really appreciate it.

WHAT:  Researchers at the Texas Transportation Institute of Texas A&M need volunteers to participate in a few focus group sessions to determine owner-operator opinions about using toll roads.

WHO:  To qualify, you need to drive primarily in Texas intrastate hauling, but have experience in using toll roads outside the state.

WHEN:  Week of October 15, 2007 for two hours between 8am and 3pm; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

HOW:  The focus groups will be conducted both in face-to-face and teleconference settings.  You can select either type in which you'd like to participate. Face-to-face sessions will be held in three cities in the state.

WHY:  The main purpose of the focus group is to understand routing decisions in the presence of tolling by being able to identify:

  1. The key factors that are involved in a trucker’s decision to use a tolled route;
  2. The likely influence of fluctuating fuel prices on a trucker’s decision to use tolled routes or not use tolled routes.

To volunteer for a Texas Tolling Focus Group, please contact the office below and receive more information about the study.
