3/12/07-A bill in the House Transportation Committee would authorize the Texas Department of Transportation to revoke or suspend motor carrier registrations if carriers fail to conduct required drug or alcohol testing on employees who hold commercial driver's licenses.
Sponsored by Rep. Jim Jackson R-Carrollton, HB1272 also would require motor carriers to conduct criminal history checks on drivers already employed, prospective drivers or leased drivers.
For bill status, call (512) 463-2182. In Texas, call 1-877-824-7038.
A companion bill - SB547 - was held in a House committee, effectively killing it.
