2/16/07-A bill has died that would have increased the amount of the state sales tax dedicated to transportation.
Sponsored by Delegate Mark Cole, R-Spotsylvania, HB1638 remained in the House Appropriations Committee at deadline to advance to the chamber floor, effectively killing it for the year.
Starting July 1, the bill would have boosted the amount devoted to transportation from half a percent to three-fourths of a percent. The amount sent to transportation would have increased to a full percent beginning July 1, 2008.
