2/16/07-A bill has died that would have prohibited all drivers from lingering in the passing lane on the state's roadways.
Sponsored by Delegate Melanie Rapp, R-Yorktown, HB1934 remained in the Senate Transportation Committee at the Feb. 15 deadline to advance to chamber floor, effectively killing it. The House previously approved it.
The bill sought to reserve the left lane for drivers passing other vehicles. Exceptions would have included exiting to the left and avoiding persons or debris.
The Virginia State Police would have been required to prepare and implement a public awareness campaign to educate the public of the prohibition.
