1/31/07-The House General Laws Committee tabled a bill that would have helped fund transportation work in the state.
Sponsored by Del. Phil Hamilton, R-Newport News, HB2824 would have established "instant racing," a game in which bettors would wager on horse races long after they have been won.
The bill called for 49 percent of the proceeds, after prizes are paid, to be set aside for transportation.
A similar version - SB1410 - remains active.
