3/28/07-Gov. Tim Kaine has signed a bill into law that prohibits drivers under age 18 from using any cell phone, hand-held or "hands free," or other wireless device. Emergency calls would be exempted.
The new law, previously SB1039, would require anyone caught in violation to face a traffic infraction. Repeat offenders could lose their driving privileges for six months.
The new rule takes effect July 1.

2/16/07-The House Transportation Committee voted 20-1 Feb. 15 to approve a bill that would prohibit drivers under age 19 from using any cell phone, hand-held or "hands free," or other wireless device. Emergency calls would be exempted.
The committee removed a provision from the Senate-approved bill - SB1039 - that allowed for primary enforcement.
Anyone caught in violation would face a traffic infraction. Repeat offenders could lose their driving privileges for six months.
