1/4/08-AB226 remained in the Assembly Committee on Rules when the 2007 session closed. It can be brought back for consideration during the session that begins Jan. 15.

5/25/07-The Assembly Criminal Justice Committee approved a bill that would require the state’s worst sex offenders to display bright green license plates when they get behind the wheel.
Sponsored by Rep. Joel Kleefisch, R-Oconomowoc, AB226 would mandate serious child molesters and sexually violent offenders to display the distinctive plates on any personal or commercial vehicle owned by the offender when they’re released from prison. Those offenders already are slated to be tracked by global positioning satellites starting July 1.
Anyone who doesn’t adhere to the rules set in the bill would face up to $25,000 fines and/or up to 10 years in prison. Simply driving a vehicle without the green plates could result in up to $10,000 fines and/or six years behind bars.
The bill has been forwarded to the Assembly Rules Committee where it will be scheduled for consideration on the chamber floor.
