1/4/08-AB54 remained in the Assembly Committee on Rules when the 2007 session closed. It can be brought back for consideration during the session that begins Jan. 15.
5/3/07-The Assembly Judiciary and Ethics Committee has approved a bill that would mandate long prison terms for the most severe repeat drunken drivers.
Sponsored by Assemblyman Troy Staskunas, D-West Allis, AB54 would mandate offenders with more than 10 convictions to face up to $25,000 fines and/or as much as 12 and one-half years in prison.
Existing state law allows for up to $10,000 fines and/or up to six years in prison.
The bill has been forwarded to the Assembly Rules Committee for further consideration.
