2/15/07-The Senate Transportation Committee voted 4-1 Feb. 14 to approve a bill that would allow two cities to post red-light cameras and speed cameras. The House previously approved a different version.
The cameras snap pictures of violators' vehicles and license plates. Warnings or tickets are mailed to the vehicles' owners, regardless who was driving at the time.
As introduced, HB203 allowed cities and towns throughout the state to post red-light cameras and speed cameras. The Senate panel turned the bill into a pilot program that would permit cameras to be erected at one location in both Casper and Cheyenne.
If approved by the full Senate, the bill would head back to the House for approval of changes.

2/7/07-The House voted 38-22 to approve a bill that would allow cities and towns throughout the state to post red-light cameras and speed cameras. It has been sent to the Senate.
The cameras snap pictures of violators' vehicles and license plates. Warnings or tickets are mailed to the vehicles' owners, regardless who was driving at the time.
Sponsored by Rep. Roy Cohee, R-Casper, HB203 would also allow pictures to capture the face of drivers.
The bill would allow first-time offenders to get off with a warning if they were within 10 mph of the speed limit. Offenses wouldn't count against driving records or insurance rates.
Repeat offenders would be mailed tickets for $400. Violations within school or construction zones would result in $800 fines.
The bill has been referred to the Senate Transportation Committee.
