5/16/08-A bill has died that called for allowing law enforcement to impound vehicles if the owner or operator cannot produce “satisfactory evidence” of registration and proof of financial responsibility. The vehicle owner would have been on the hook for the impoundment.
After one year, the vehicle could have been sold by the agency responsible for the impoundment.
Sponsored by Rep. David Grimes, R-Montgomery, HB37 didn’t make it out of committee.

3/17/08-A bill in the House Public Safety Committee is intended to encourage people to obtain proof of vehicle insurance.
Sponsored by Rep. David Grimes, R-Montgomery, HB37 would allow law enforcement to impound vehicles if the owner or operator cannot produce “satisfactory evidence” of registration and proof of financial responsibility. The vehicle owner would be on the hook for the impoundment.
After one year, the vehicle could be sold by the agency responsible for the impoundment.
