7/1/08-A bill has died that sought to allow cities, counties and the state to form special authorities for financing, construction and operation of public highways.
Sponsored by Sen. Jay Tibshraeny, R-Chandler, SB1420 also would have authorized highway authorities in Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties to partner with private companies for construction of toll roads.
Each public-highway authority would have been required to hold public hearings on construction proposals.

3/25/08-The Senate voted 19-9 to approve a bill that would allow cities, counties and the state to form special authorities for financing, construction and operation of public highways.
Sponsored by Sen. Jay Tibshraeny, R-Chandler, SB1420 also would authorize highway authorities in Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties to partner with private companies for construction of toll roads.
