7/1/08-Gov. Janet Napolitano has signed a bill into law that allows the Arizona Department of Transportation to privatize rest areas along state highways.
The new law, previously SB1466 prohibits a person privatizing rest areas to charge for the use of bathrooms.

5/1/08-The House voted 48-12 to approve a bill that would allow the Arizona Department of Transportation to privatize rest areas along state highways.
SB1466 was amended in the House to include a provision that would prohibit a person privatizing rest areas to charge for the use of bathrooms.
The amended version has moved back to the Senate for approval of changes. If approved there, it would go to the governor’s desk.

4/4/08-The House Transportation Committee unanimously approved a bill that would allow the Arizona Department of Transportation to privatize rest areas along state highways.
Sponsored by Sen. Ron Gould, R- Lake Havasu City, SB1466 is awaiting clearance to the House floor. The Senate previously approved it.
