5/1/08-A bill has died that sought to require the Arizona Department of Transportation to partner with private businesses to convert carpool lanes on state Route 51 into toll lanes by 2013.
Sponsored by Sen. Ron Gould, R- Lake Havasu City, SB1471 also would have allowed ADOT to convert carpool lanes on any other freeway into toll lanes.

2/20/08-The Senate Transportation Committee voted 3-1 to approve a bill that would require the Arizona Department of Transportation to partner with private businesses to convert carpool lanes on state Route 51 into toll lanes by 2013.
Sponsored by Sen. Ron Gould, R- Lake Havasu City, SB1471 also would allow ADOT to convert carpool lanes on any other freeway into toll lanes.
The bill now is awaiting consideration in the Senate Rules Committee.
