OOIDA Call to Action - Los Angeles County members who live in the Antelope Valley
Dec. 15, 2008
Heads up: If you live in the Antelope Valley, which is the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County and park your truck at your residence, it is imperative for you to attend a meeting on Friday, December 19th.
During the past year, truckers have been targeted by county code enforcement officials for parking their truck at their residences. Citations are being issued with fines that approach one thousand dollars and/or threat of six months in jail. If this enforcement action is allowed to go unanswered, you could be forced to relocate or find someplace else to garage your truck.
The Antelope Valley Truckers Organization (AVTO), an ad hoc group formed by truckers and their supporters, is spearheading an effort that would allow you to continue parking your truck at home. Additionally, OOIDA representative, Joe Rajkovacz, will be attending to inform attendees on how other truckers have successfully dealt with this issue in California and elsewhere.
Antelope Valley truckers have been an integral part of the local economy for decades. Truckers support many jobs in the High Desert such as oil jobbers, fueling locations, parts and repair facilities just to name a few. A large turnout by truckers and their supporters will send a strong message to local and county politicians concerning this issue.
Everyone is invited to the meeting which will be held at 7 PM, Friday, December 19th at the workshop of:
Tom Fidger
37324 90th Street East
Littlerock, California.
Tom is the Treasurer of the AVTO and member of the Littlerock Town Council. If you have any questions, he can be reached at 661-944-0212 or call Bill Benton, President AVTO at 661-944-5712.
