3/28/08-The Senate Transportation Committee voted 5-2 to kill a bill that sought to establish a congestion pricing system on Interstate 70 between Floyd Hill and the Eisenhower Tunnel. Tolls would have been assessed on weekends during peak driving hours.
Sponsored by Sen. Chris Romer, D-Denver, SB209 would have required large trucks to pay higher tolls. In addition, it would have designated I-70 as a high-occupancy toll lane highway and authorize reversible lanes.
Tolls would have been collected from drivers that don’t have at least three occupants. Those fees would have been levied only during ski season rush hours and Sunday afternoons year round.
