5/29/08-A bill has died that sought to force car and truck drivers to remove ice and snow from their vehicles before taking to roadways.
Sponsored by House Speaker Lawrence Cafero, R-Norwalk, HB5042 would have fined violators as much as $1,000 if police determine that snow and ice poses a threat to others or it has damaged another vehicle.
2/19/08-The Legislature’s Transportation Committee held a public hearing Wednesday, Feb. 20, which included discussion on a bill that would force car and truck drivers to remove ice and snow from their vehicles before taking to roadways.
State law already allows police to pull over drivers for failure to secure a load. Sponsored by House Speaker Lawrence Cafero, R-Norwalk, HB5042 specifically targets snow and ice.
Violators would face fines between $200 and $1,000 if police determine that snow and ice poses a threat to others or it has damaged another vehicle.
