5/6/08-A bill has died that would have permitted police to pull over drivers in the state for not wearing their seat belts.
Under a 1986 state law, police can ticket drivers for not buckling up only after stopping a vehicle for another traffic violation, such as speeding or a bad taillight.
Sponsored by Sen. Nan Rich, D-Weston, S94 would make failure to buckle up a primary offense.
An identical House bill – HB11 – also died.
