6/11/08-A bill is likely dead that was intended to lower diesel emissions in the state.
SB2083 initially sought to put in place a 1 percent surcharge onto the sale or lease of diesel vehicles weighing in excess of 14,000 pounds that don’t have 2007 engines. The provision also called for setting up a program to register all diesel-powered vehicles – on-road and off-road.

4/23/08-The Senate approved a bill after eliminating a provision that was intended to lower diesel emissions in the state. It now moves to the House.
SB2083 initially sought to put in place a 1 percent surcharge onto the sale or lease of diesel vehicles weighing in excess of 14,000 pounds that don’t have 2007 engines. The provision also called for setting up a program to register all diesel-powered vehicles – on-road and off-road.

3/13/08-The Senate Environment and Energy Committee unanimously approved a bill that is intended to lower diesel emissions in the state.
Sponsored by Sen. Jacqueline Collins, D-Chicago, SB2083 would put in place a 1 percent surcharge onto the sale or lease of diesel vehicles weighing in excess of 14,000 pounds that don’t have 2007 engines.
The measure also would set up a program to register all diesel-powered vehicles – on-road and off-road.
The bill has moved to the Senate floor for further consideration.
