7/2/08-A bill became law without the signature of Gov. Bobby Jindal that requires legislative approval prior to any deals to sell or lease bridges in the state.
Previously HB1081, the new law also requires lawmakers to give prior approval of deals that transfer management, control or operation of bridges to public or private groups.
The bill does not prohibit contracts from being signed for bridge repairs, maintenance, cleaning or other work. Tolls also could be collected.

6/4/08-House lawmakers voted unanimously to approve Senate changes to a bill that would require legislative approval prior to any deals to sell or lease bridges in the state. The bill now heads to Gov. Bobby Jindal.
HB1081 also would require lawmakers to give prior approval of deals that transfer management, control or operation of bridges to public or private groups.
The bill would not prohibit contracts from being signed for bridge repairs, maintenance, cleaning or other work. Tolls also could be collected.

5/28/08-The Senate unanimously approved a bill that would require legislative approval prior to any deals to sell or lease bridges.
The Senate removed a provision in the bill that applied the rule solely to bridges more than five miles long. House lawmakers must agree to the change before the measure is cleared to advance to Gov. Bobby Jindal’s desk.
HB1081 also would require lawmakers to give prior approval of deals that transfer management, control or operation of bridges to public or private groups.
The bill would not prohibit contracts from being signed for bridge repairs, maintenance, cleaning or other work. Tolls also could be collected.

5/19/08-The Senate Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committee cleared the way for a bill to move to the full Senate that would require legislative approval prior to any deals to sell or lease bridges more than five miles long. House lawmakers already endorsed the measure by unanimous consent.
Sponsored by Rep. John Schroder, R-Covington, HB1081 also would require lawmakers to give prior approval of deals that transfer management, control or operation of bridges to public or private groups.
The bill would not prohibit contracts from being signed for bridge repairs, maintenance, cleaning or other work. Tolls also could be collected.
