7/7/08-Gov. Bobby Jindal signed a bill into law that changes how permits are issued for sealed cargo containers. Permits will be issued to containers rather than transport vehicles.
The regulations for transport of sealed containers will be applicable to domestic and international trade.
Previously HB832, the new law also expands where regulations are applicable for vehicles transporting intermodal containers with a gross vehicle weight of 95,000 pounds. Existing Louisiana law applies the regulations within 50 miles of ports or harbor districts. The bill makes the regulations applicable anywhere.
Exceptions will be made for vehicles transporting such containers within 50 miles of the Interstate 10 Twin Span Bridge.
The new law takes effect Aug. 15.
