6/10/08-A bill has died that sought to limit tractor-trailers to the two right-most lanes on highways with three or more lanes.
Sponsored by Sen. Dale Erdey, R-Livingston, SB341 was killed when the House Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committee voted to defer action on the bill and instead opted to turn it into a study resolution. The Senate previously approved it.
The rule would have applied specifically to roads outside of municipalities where the posted speed is at least 55 mph.
Violators would have faced $500 fines. Exceptions would have been made for overtaking and passing other vehicles.

6/2/08-The Senate voted 37-1 to approve a bill that would limit tractor-trailers to the two right-most lanes on highways with three or more lanes. It now moves to the House.
Sponsored by Sen. Dale Erdey, R-Livingston, SB341 was amended on the Senate floor. The previous version limited trucks to the far-right lane.
The rule would apply specifically to roads outside of municipalities where the posted speed is at least 55 mph. Exceptions would be made for overtaking and passing other vehicles.
Violators would face $500 fines.
The bill is awaiting assignment to committee in the House.

Sponsored by Sen. Dale Erdey, R-Livingston, SB341 would limit tractor-trailers with at least 18 wheels to the far right lane on highways with three or more lanes in each direction. Violators would face $500 fines.
The rule would apply specifically to roads outside of municipalities where the posted speed is at least 55 mph. Exceptions would be made for overtaking and passing other vehicles.
The bill is awaiting consideration on the Senate floor.
