7/2/08-A bill has died that was intended to conceal the identity of motorists caught on camera running red lights in the state.
Sponsored by Sen. Troy Hebert, D-Jeanerette, SB396 would have allowed traffic cameras to continue to snap photos of vehicle license plates. However, they couldn’t have been used to capture any other identifying photos.
Local governments also would have been prohibited from providing private companies with personal information, namely Social Security numbers and driver’s license numbers.
