5/5/08-LD2228 has died. It was awaiting consideration before the full Senate when session ended, effectively killing it for the year. The House previously approved it.
4/16/08-The House approved a bill that would off a tax refund to special fuel used to transport forest products to and from mills.
Sponsored by Sen. Elizabeth Schneider, D-Orono, LD2228 was amended from providing a rebate of taxes paid on diesel fuel by vehicles carrying forest products. The revised version is awaiting final consideration on the Senate floor.
The bill would apply to purchases made between Jan. 1, 2008, and April 30, 2008.
To qualify for a rebate, truckers must file an application form prescribed by the state’s tax assessor. Rebates would be mailed within 60 days of receiving properly filed applications.
