12/11/08-A bill has died that sought to prohibit drivers from talking on hand-held cell phones while driving. Talking on a phone equipped with a “hands-free” accessory would still be permitted.
HB4982 would have fined violators $100. Exceptions would have been made for emergencies.
6/16/08-The House Transportation Committee voted to advance a bill to the chamber floor that would prohibit drivers from talking on hand-held cell phones while driving. Talking on a phone equipped with a “hands-free” accessory would still be permitted.
Sponsored by Rep. Gino Polidori, D-Dearborn, HB4982 would fine violators $100. Exceptions would be made for emergencies.
