12/31/08-A bill died that sought to authorize counties to apply an additional tax on vehicle registration fees. Local voter approval would have been required for passage.
Sponsored by Rep. Pam Byrnes, D-Lyndon Township, HB6325 would have authorized the surtax to be as much as 20 percent of the state tax on a vehicle. It called for revenue collected to be used solely for road work, public transit, rail service and landscaping.
