6/5/08-A bill has died that sought to raise the legal driving age for teens.
Sponsored by Rep. Joe Smith, R-St. Charles, HB1492 remained in the House Transportation Committee when the regular session ended.
The bill would have increased the legal driving age from 16 to 18 years old. The age for any person to obtain an instruction permit would have been raised from 15 to 17 years old.

1/7/08-Rep. Joe Smith, R-St. Charles, has filed a bill for consideration during the upcoming regular session that would raise the legal driving age for teens.
HB1492 would increase the legal driving age from 16 to 18 years old. The age for any person to obtain an instruction permit would be raised from 15 to 17 years old.
The bill is awaiting assignment to committee for the session that begins Wednesday, Jan. 9.
