6/5/08-A bill has died that sought to prevent price gouging in the state during state or federal emergencies.
Sponsored by Rep. Mark Bruns, R-Jefferson City, HB1496 would have applied protections to necessities, including food, fuel, water and transportation.
Sellers would have been prohibited from increasing prices more than 10 percent above their costs immediately before emergency declarations. Offenders would have been liable for three times the amount “unfairly received for each transaction.”

5/5/08-A bill in the House Crime Prevention and Public Safety Committee is intended to prevent price gouging in the state during state or federal emergencies. The protections would apply to necessities, including food, fuel, water and transportation.
