2/22/08-A bill has died that sought to permit police to ticket drivers who fail to flip on their headlights during bad weather.
Sponsored by Sen. Sidney Albritton, R-Picayune, SB2212 remained in the Senate Highways and Transportation Committee at the deadline to advance to the Senate floor, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have required lights to be on “whenever conditions necessitate the use of windshield wipers.” Drivers also would have been required to have their headlights on from sunset to sunrise.
Violators would have faced $25 fines.
Nearly identical legislation – HB97 and HB450 – also died.
