3/10/08-A bill has died that sought to increase fines against railroads for blocking highways, streets or alleys in unincorporated towns and villages for more than 10 minutes.
Sponsored by Sen. Annette Dubas, D-Fullerton, LB1069 was indefinitely postponed from consideration by the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee, effectively killing it for the year.
State law now allows railroads to be fined between $10 and $100. The bill would have increased the fines to $1,000.
For bill status, call (402) 471-2709. In Nebraska, call 1-800-742-7456.
