6/17/08-Gov. David Paterson has signed a bill into law that is intended to help ensure that food for human consumption is not transported under conditions it could become tainted.
State law now exempts common carrier transportation firms from food safety precautions.
The new law, previously A1172, makes common carriers found in violation of agriculture and markets law subject to the same law enforcement measures faced by other violators of the state’s food laws.

Sponsored by Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, D-Forestburgh, A1172 would make common carriers found in violation of agriculture and markets law subject to the same law enforcement measures faced by other violators of the state’s food laws.
The bill is in the Senate Agriculture Committee.
