3/10/08-The Assembly approved a bill that is intended to help ensure that food for human consumption is not transported under conditions it could become tainted. It now moves to the Senate.
State law now exempts common carrier transportation firms from food safety precautions.
Sponsored by Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, D-Forestburgh, A1172 would make common carriers found in violation of agriculture and markets law subject to the same law enforcement measures faced by other violators of the state’s food laws.
The bill is in the Senate Agriculture Committee.

1/30/08-A bill in the Assembly Transportation Committee would require truckers and other drivers to remove ice, snow, sleet and hail from their vehicles before taking to roadways in the state.
New York law already prohibits driving a vehicle with an obstruction – though it is not specific to snow and ice.
Sponsored by Assemblyman Mike Spano, D-Yonkers, A5773 would specify rules for driving with wintry precipitation atop vehicles. Truck drivers found in violation would face fines between $450 and $1,250. Others would face fines between $150 and $850. No points would be added to driver’s licenses.
