12/31/08-A bill has died in an Assembly committee that sought to suspend collecting taxes on fuel purchases this summer. The Senate previously approved it.
S7594 would have lifted the taxes on the state’s gas and diesel purchases from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Included in the bill was a provision that could allow for more consumer savings. It would have given local governments the option to suspend collection of local sales taxes.
In addition, fuel station owners and fuel distributors would have been penalized if they do not pass along savings form the initiative.
