5/30/08-A bill has died that would have required all written driver’s license examinations in the state to be given only in English. Tennessee law now allows the written part of the test to be given in Spanish.
Sponsored by Sen. Bill Ketron, R-Murfreesboro, SB3644 remained in the Senate Transportation Committee when the session ended, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have included commercial driver’s license testing.
The House version – HB3113 – also died.

According to a fiscal analysis on the bill, the English requirement would save the state $66,500 annually in printing costs to offer testing in Spanish.
